It’s been generally understood that as Lakshmi being “Goddess of Wealth” & Ganesh being “Remover of Obstacles” (Vighneshwara), people want money with no obstacles so they do the Lakshmi ganesha Pooja. This is the need or desire but not the reason for Why Lakshmi and ganesh are worshipped together?

But when they ask for the History or Origin of the practice many go blank. So today let’s understand the same.

As per Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu made a comment to Goddess Lakshmi which no man can say to his wife. No person can say to a women, if did so, can hurt them deep hearted. But Vishnu ji did it not to make Lakshmi sad or let her down. But he made it, so that that Lakshmi shall come out of her Ego and make her a complete woman. One fine day, Lakshmi was very much involved on her self-praise saying that she is the most worshipped deity compared all Hindu gods. Vishnu Bagwan did not want to urgue instead he wants to remove her Ego and said that you may be or some time may not be most worshiped deity but you are not the complete woman. A complete woman is the one who experience the joy of motherhood which is the most important thing for a Women in this universe”

Goddess Lakshmi ego melted in instant and she got upset & deeply disheartened. In a want of consoling, She went to her sister alike dearest friend Goddess parvati and explained what has happened. Goddess parvati given an idea so that Lakshmi devi can experience the joy & grace of motherhood. She said to Lakshmi that I have two sons, where you can adopt any one son so that I still have one more son.

Without utmost Joy & unpayable thankfulness, Lakshmi ji choose to adopt ganesh because she was very much admired with the knowledge of ganesh ji and fond of his adorable looks on the other side in a fear that she couldn’t handle the anger of Karthikeya swamy for her soft nature.

She then escorts Lord Ganesh ji to Vaikuntha with grandeur welcome with all the gods, Goddess, Diety, Rushi & god servants witnessing the auspicious event. In this joy, Goddess Lakshmi announced that she shall fulfill all the desires of Ganesha and she shall not reside with anyone who will not worship his beloved adopted son.

Thus Goddess Lakshmi lost her ego as being the most worshipped Hindu deity to his adorable son ganesha and earned an opportunity experience of True motherhood joy and grace. There after everyone started worshipping the Goddess Lakshmi by keeping Lord Ganesh beside her in every rituals and festival puja.
